Peppernuts

The Milkman comes from a family history steeped Mennonite and German traditions. One of these traditions comes in the form of a little cookie called Peppernuts. They are easy to make they just take a little time. It your wanting to try something new this holiday season here is the recipe and the ingredients you are going to need.
In a bowl cream together 1 1/2 cups sugar, 1 cup margarine or butter, and 1 egg
After you beat that until it is light and fluffy add 2 teaspoons baking soda, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, 1 teaspoon cloves, 1 teaspoon ginger, 1/2 Tablespoon Anise extract and 2 Tablespoons white corn syrup.

Mix until that is all incorporated.
Then add 3 1/4 cups flour and mix until it forms a ball.
Cover the bowl and place in the fridge for 24 hours so that it can season through.
Then roll out the dough in a rope and cut them.
Put them on a greased baking dish and bake in a 350 degree oven for 7-8 minutes.

Let cool and store them in a air tight container and munch away. They are SO good and might be a little addictive. Ha!
