Bread and Butter Custard

I like trying new recipes and when a recipe has coconut in it that is all the better, because I am a huge coconut freak! This recipe came from an instagram friend who lives in Australia. It looked delicious so I tried it last week. Here is what you do, butter a 8x8 pan and then butter 4 slices of bread. Put those in the bottom of the dish with the buttered side up like the picture below.
Sprinkle 3/4 cup coconut and 3/4 cup raisins over the top of the bread.
Now boil on top of the stove or in the microwave 1 cup of milk. When the milk is hot add 3 teaspoons of sugar, 1 teaspoon of vanilla and 3 eggs (stir quickly so you don't cook the eggs). Whisk all together and pour over the top of the bread. Then add 4 dollops of butter on top and bake for 30-35 minutes in a 350 degree oven. Then slice it up and enjoy! It was good! The milkman and Scotty actually liked it for dessert at lunch instead of having any at breakfast. This was a simple, quick and easy recipe I think it will become a staple around here.

Happy Birthday Scotty

It was Scotty's 21st birthday on Saturday. I couldn't find a birthday bag for his present so this pink one was the one he received. He was cracking up! I made him a dozen of his favorite cupcakes Carrot, along with some cologne, a new razor kit and a t-shirt because he is always flexing his muscles around the farm. Happy Birthday Scotty we are so thankful for your amazing work ethic and great attitude. We hope you had a great day and a very blessed year!

Harvest 2014

Last week wheat harvest was in full swing around here. This year was different in the fact that 2 of our kiddos Taryn (16) and Kenton (14) helped out more then they ever had. Taryn drove the tractor and grain cart and Kenton did most of the combining.

During harvest we always pack lunches in coolers, but for supper our suburban becomes a modern day chuck wagon. When I was first married it was a challenge to come up with portable hot meals for the field. Now I have a few staples that I only make during harvest time and the kiddos look forward to them.
I'm so thankful for these 2, they have set an example of what hard work looks like and what it means to work as a family. We are so blessed to be able to work together as a team and continue farming.

The milkman was able to take a little tiny power nap since the kiddos were running the combine and grain cart and tractor. This was the first year that has ever happened.
We were blessed with a good harvest. We have heard that some farmers in the area had to disk under their wheat because there wasn't anything to it. Thankfully God gave us a decent crop. The next day after we finished wheat harvest the milkman and crew planted the rest of the soy beans. Then once again God blessed with an 1 1/2" rain which we are thankful for. Hopefully we will continue to get good rains so that when we harvest corn and soy beans in the fall it will be a good harvest as well.

Park, Pizza and Pool

Last week as you know was Ky's birthday. We asked her what she wanted to do and she wanted to go swimming. So, after chores we loaded up and ordered pizza on the way to town, picked up the pizza and headed to the park.

After pizza and play time she opened her presents. We didn't know what to get her until the other day when were in the mall she found this puppy purse. I try to teach the kids not to beg for things that they find in stores so we play this game where you can carry it around in the store and wish for it for Christmas or your Birthday. Of course you never usually get the item you carry around but once in a while you do. That was the case with the puppy purse and she was so excited when she opened her gift and found it inside. In fact I don't have pictures but she has carried it around for days and has had to sleep with it at night. So cute!

Then we hit the little water park. We had a great time! We finished off the evening with half price shakes at Sonic Yum-O! We can't believe she is 4 time is flying by. We are so thankful for her little life and blessed everyday that she is in it.
