We asked. God Answered.

So anyone will tell you that in the farming/agriculture business if you don't have rain then you don't have a crop. And if you don't have a crop then you don't have a paycheck! A few weeks ago it was starting to get a little bit desperate as far as the rain situation. But over the weekend it rained a bunch and then Monday night I thought that the milkman and Kenton might want to start building an ark! Our prayers were answered and God gave us rain. 5 inches in fact just on Monday night alone. Tomorrow I will show you pictures of what it looked like around here. We are so blessed to have a God who listens when we pray!

Bridal Fair

Our first Bridal Fair went really well I think. Since, I don't really have anything to compare it to, I thought it was good. People were friendly especially other vendors which I thought was nice.

Out of 1,000 mini cupcakes I think we only brought home maybe 15. Thank goodness people liked them.

I was so thankful that our set up and tear down was easy. Natalia came the 2nd day to help out.

Taryn was there all day the first day. It was so fun doing something with my girls. But I was SO thankful for my partner in crime Vera, she was amazing with not only the event but all of the prep work that she put into everything weeks before the Bridal Fair. I couldn't have done it without her. Thanks so much!

It was fun to meet so many new people.

One of the things both of my girls really enjoyed was the fashion show. They loved seeing all of the gorgeous wedding gowns. I have a feeling the milkman and I might want to start saving for their weddings even if it is 20 years from now (We have told them they need to be at least 40 before they get married Ha! Ha!). I think after this weekend they might have some big ideas.

On the last day of the fair I saw 4 of the model wander towards our booth and look at the cupcakes. I told them they should try a sample of cupcakes. Lets just say I didn't have to tell them twice :)

Friends have called or texted and asked how we think it went. I just keep saying we will have to see what happens in the next few week. The one thing I do know is, I was SO tired!!

1,000 mini cupcakes DONE!

Yesterday we were off to the races, mini cupcake races that is. In case you haven't heard we are going to be a vendor at the Bridal Fair to promote  the hayloft on Saturday and Sunday. What do people like most at a trade show? Samples of course! We decided to make 1,000 mini cupcakes to pass out. So I called some of my A-M-A-Z-I-N-G friends to help and thankfully they agreed!
I recruited anyone that was willing to help!
Once we figured out a rhythm we were like a machine. We did have one mishap though. I haven't ever made mini cupcakes before, I mean not this many. So, I learned something right off the bat. 1. You DO NOT need to make nearly as much batter for mini as you would the normal size cupcakes. EEEEkkkkk! We needed 200 cupcakes per flavor we were making and at 260 chocolate mocha cupcakes we still had 2 1/2 kitchen aid bowls full of batter!!! Thankfully, we don't live very far from where we were working so I had one of my daughters bring me some 9x13 pans to make full size cakes. Needless, to say we had a good laugh!

We were making the cupcakes at the kids' school so of course the principle had to come and check
quality control!! Thanks David I was worried about this.  I'm so glad you could help us out. :)

At lunch time the milkman who is a wonderful chef, made us his yummy mexican and brought it to  school so we could all eat together. Yum-O!!

This was my team whom I could NOT have began to get all those mini cupcakes done as quickly as we did. We started at 7:10AM and we finished at noon. I am so grateful to each one of you. Tiana, Sara, Kris, Vera Mae, Sally and Cassidy you were amazing and I am so very thankful for all your hard work. I also had a team of prayer warriors hard at work as well and believe me I knew they were praying because everything went so smoothly. Thank you prayer warriors I am truly blessed by you as well. I need to also give out thank yous to the milkman for the most de-lish lunch and to Tally and Taryn for helping behind the scenes with running errands and keeping Ky out of the frosting bowl! It takes a team to get this much work done quickly and I am so thankful for all of you!!!

1,000 Mini Cupcakes

All this stuff below should turn into 1,000 mini cupcakes in 5 flavors by the end of the day if all goes according to plan. I am so very blessed to have a few friends coming to help me out or there would be no way possible that I would get them all done by Saturday for the Bridal Fair. Sooooo, if you find yourself sitting around eating bon bons, are local and know where Berean Academy is, please feel free to come on over and help out!! If you can't make it out please say some prayers that everything will run smoothly today and that everything will get accomplished! On that note I now have to get moving I have SO much to do! Have a great day!

Pickled Beets

Call me crazy but we LOVE pickled beets around here. Kenton and Grandma planted a BIG row of beets in hopes that we would get a bunch of them. I have always wanted to learn how to can them and this year Ky and I helped Grandma put them up.
First things of course is to pick them all. Grandma, Ky and I all had a great time pulling them out of the ground.

But, I will tell you Kyler's favorite thing out of the whole process was washing them off she did this for WAY longer then needed to be. She was having fun so we let her have at it.

Next you put them in a pan with water and boil them until fork tender.
Then you drain the water off and the skins just slide right off of the beets.  In another pot you put all of these ingredients in and bring to a boil and add the beets. A side note the pickle spice needs to be wrapped in a material something like cheese cloth so the spice isn't all over the pot.

You boil that for about 10 minutes and then while the mixture is hot you scoop it into your cans. Seal and let cool on the counter. If you do everything right as the jars cool down to room temperature you will hear a little pop and that mean your jars are sealed. We always get so excited when we hear the popping sounds. I know we lead an exciting life around here!!

Then you can enjoy! I LOVE their color so pretty. I am so thankful that I have a mother-in-law that is  patience enough to show her crazy daughter-in-law the joys of canning. If you have never tried pickled beets you should. But I would advise you that home grown from your own garden and canned in your own kitchen is that best!!

A little Rain

It has been so nice the last couple of days to receive some rain. Let's just say not only does it make the corn grow, it makes the milkman VERY happy!!! I kept hearing the front door opening and shuting while it was raining so I went to investigate and this was the scene I saw. The 2 little ones decided to make a rain fort out of umbrellas complete with snacks. Thankfully it was a soft rain without any wind. You never know what they will come up with! It did keep them occupied for awhile so I could get one more chore down in the house. Thank you God for providing the wonderful moisture.

July Birthdays

My sisters married brothers and their sons or our nephews were both born in July. My sisters, in-laws have a lake house that we go to from time to time for different events. This event was for the boys' birthdays.

The theme for this party was fishing of course. They did a great job with the table scape.
The party favor bags were so cute!
Of course for a fishing party you have to have a dirt cake the first bowl was for the adults

and they made the kids individuals ones.
I don't know about your family gatherings but there is always good food to be had.

So many kids and to think they are all related!
My sisters are so creative they came up with pin the tail on a fish for a game for the kiddos to play. Fun!

We had a great day it was so relaxing and fun to hang together and enjoy the day! Happy Birthday Boys we love you so much!
