Midwest Dairy Appreciation Night

Last night the milkman took us out to our "company picnic." Midwest Dairy Association sponsored dairy night at the Wingnuts baseball game. It was so fun! Dinner and yummy snacks were served throughout the game. Hamburgers and hot dogs with all of the trimmings Yum-o!
Ron who we have come to know was the event coordinator for this event and works for Midwest Dairy. He and his crew did an great job!! When we first arrived he put wrist bands on all of us so that we could eat and sit in one of the sky boxes to watch the game.

Kyler had never been to a baseball game before and she really watched.

The score board had this written on it. It made you proud to be a dairy farmer!
In honor of the dairy farmers they handed out cow bells to everyone as they came in the stadium. There was ALOT of cow bell throughout the night!!!!

The kiddos were recruited to help roll up T-shirts and throw into the crowd in the middle of the 5th inning. Afterward Taryn told me that she could check that off her bucket list. She had always wanted to throw t-shirts to the crowd at a sporting event. So, thanks Ron for making that possible :)

We had such a great time as a family thanks Midwest Dairy for putting together such a great night for us Dairy farmers. We had a blast!!

Dirty Job

Since the weather has been so dry this year the milkman had to cut the soybeans down early for silage and put it into a large bag. It was very very hot! It was a very dirty job!

Kim was out there most of the day. She was a trooper!! She is amazing, after milking cows since 4am she stayed until after lunch and helped the milkman run the bagger. Thank you Kim, you know how to  help keep the farm running smoothly. I think you might have earned your bath water today :)
This is how the milkman will feed the cows all winter. Having the feed in the bag helps perserve it so he can feed high quality feed to the cows all winter.

I love to save

I love to save money with coupons in case you didn't know!! I ran into the store the other day to grab a couple of things that were on sale and I had coupons for. I was so excited when I saved 100% I just had to pay the tax which was .54 cents. Thank you Uncle Sam!!
I love how our store which is Dillons has a box at the bottom of the receipt to show you how much you saved. In parenthesis they even show what your saving is by percent. It says 100% my favorite number!!!! I was so excited! When I came out with my 3 bags I asked the milkman how much do you think I spent? He said "2 dollars" I said "No .54 cents" He said "Very impressive"!!! Love to save that money!

Rain!!!

As a farmer you have to always rely on the weather for a paycheck. This year has been so bad. This summer I have seen the crops burn up from the sun and NO moisture and the milkman very depressed. But, on Saturday the heavens opened up and it rained and rained. It was AMAZING!!! We were all so excited, especially the milkman. What did you do this weekend? Did you get a much needed break from the heat?

Happy 29th

Today is my littlest sister's Birthday her 29th! She is the one on the right in case you didn't know. I was 14 years old when she was born (Don't do the math!!!). I remember being a teenager pushing her in a cart in the store and people saying how cute my baby was. Pitiful!!! I am so thankful that she is my sister. I love how as she has grown up we have become closer and closer. I think she is not only an amazing sister but a wonderful wife, mother and friend. My kids adore her and often ask when they can  go to Aunt Alicia's house or when is Aunt Alicia coming over to hang out. She is always so good with them. Taryn wanted to do something extra special for her so she saved some of her money from her summer job and took Alicia to have a professional pedicures done. She had never had one before. They had a great time.
Yesterday our other sister Jenny and their sister-in-law Jessie took Alicia to the "big city" for a little lunch and shopping. Happy Birthday sister I hope you have a great day and a very blessed year. I love you!!

Separation at Home

People often ask me if we have skim milk. At this time on the farm we aren't separating because there just isn't enough demand compared to all of the work it takes to produce it. But, I have told customers of an easy way to have your skim milk at home. All you need to do is find a drink container like the ones below. Fill your container with raw milk let it sit in the refrigerator overnight and in the morning you will be able to see the cream has floated to the top. At this point you can either just use your valve fill up your glass with skim milk until the cream comes to the bottom or you can lift off the lid of the container and scoop off the cream. Then you will have 2 products that you will have on hand at home. Skim milk and cream!! These 2 containers I found at Target and right now most of these containers are on clearance!! And clearance is my favorite in case you didn't know!! HA HA

Cooking it up

Sometimes my kids do things that crack me up and drive me crazy all at the same time. For instance when they decide to "make" something to eat. On this day the three little ones thought it would be fun to use Kyler's little kitchen toys to mix something up. I didn't mind as long as they cleaned it up. It kept them busy for quite awhile and no one was fighting it was amazing!!

They wanted me to try their creation. I was a little nervous! It was so nice to hear them talking and laughing together! I am so thankful for the kiddos God has given us. We are truly blessed! But, I will admit that there were days this summer when I was wanting the little padded bus to come and pick me up!!!! HA! HA!

Overnight Cinnamon Rolls

This is the overnight cinnamon roll recipe that a friend of mine gave to me years ago and I love how easy it is, plus there is nothing like waking up to the smell of cinnamon rolls baking in the oven! Here is what you will need.

2 Tablespoons yeast
1/2 cup of warm water
2 cups scalded milk
1/3 cup sugar
1/3 cup oil
3 teaspoons baking powder
2 teaspoons salt
1 egg
6 1/2-7 1/2 cups of flour
Combine yeast and water, sugar and oil in scaled milk. Then add the rest of ingredients to make a non-stick dough. Put in bowl and let rise until doubled about an hour and a half.

While the dough is rising make the topping that actually goes in the bottom of 2 9x13 pans.
                                                                       2 cups brown sugar
                                                                        1 cup butter
                                                                        4 Tablespoons of corn syrup
                                                                         1 cup sour cream
Heat and mix together pour into the 2 pans.
When the dough is done rising divide in half, roll out and brush with melted butter, sprinkle with brown sugar and cinnamon.
Then here is my secret I use to cut the cinnamon rolls easily, dental floss! I just get a long piece and slide under the roll come up and crisscross the floss and pull and it slices them perfectly!

Put the cinnamon rolls on top of the topping, place foil on each pan and pop them in the fridge for overnight or no more then 48 hours. In the morning bake on 350 for 35 minutes. Grab a cup of coffee and enjoy!!! Happy Baking! I hope you all have a great weekend.

 Yum-O!!!
Susan G. of Las Vegas if you could e-mail me with your request at kwcassie@hotmail.com I will be able to help you out. Thanks and have a great day.

1st day of school

This morning was the first day of school for everyone!! Sing with me "It's the most wonderful time of the year!!!" I made homemade cinnamon rolls which has been a tradition since they started school. Although some years they have been as homemade as popping out a can of pillsbury ones from the refrigerator section of my local grocery store! But, this year I made overnight cinnamon rolls so all I had to do was pop them in the oven this morning. I will share the recipe with you on my post tomorrow. They are delish!! The morning went off without a hitch until we got to school and then the older 3 didn't want anything to do with mom or her camera, so sad.
This year we have a Sophomore, Freshman, 7th and 6th graders. Craziness!!
Tiana and Emily have been since they were little I was so thankful that they let me take pictures of them. Thanks ladies!!
Mallory and Tiana have known each other since the day they were born.
Kyler didn't understand why everyone was going to stay at school. Tiana was so good to take a little extra time with her it was so precious!! Now we are home and it is so quiet!! Hopefully I can get some things accomplished that have needed worked on for awhile. But, for the moment I'm going to sit here enjoy some quiet and have another cup of coffee!!
